The Overseas Highway carries US 1 for 113 miles and across 42 bridges, with the mile markers counting down to 0 in Key West. The Seven Mile Bridge, between markers 47 and 40, is the long one. Unless you fly in, every show at the end of the road starts with that drive, so leave room for it.

The outdoor stage
The Coffee Butler Amphitheater sits in Truman Waterfront Park, on land that was once Navy property. The city owns it and named it for Lofton "Coffee" Butler, a Key West musician and community figure. It holds a few thousand people for touring acts, and on a clear night the breeze off the water does a lot of work.
Theaters
The Tennessee Williams Theatre at the College of the Florida Keys opened in 1980 with a Tennessee Williams premiere, and the playwright lent the building his name. It presents chamber music, jazz, dance, symphony concerts and musicals. The Key West Theater handles headliner shows, including during the songwriters festival.
Bars with a stage
The Green Parrot on Whitehead Street has been a bar since 1890, by its own account, and it books bands from around the country every week, with music in the afternoon, the evening and late at night. If you only have one night on the island, it is a strong place to spend it.
Songwriters week
The Key West Songwriters Festival, presented by BMI, takes over the island for several days each spring, usually as April turns into May. Most of the bar and street shows are free to walk into, while the headliner shows at the Key West Theater and the Coffee Butler are ticketed. Browse country and rock for touring acts headed this way.
Weather
Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, and with a long drive in each direction, watch the forecast before you commit to a Keys show in late summer or fall. Your ticket has the details for the night. Coming from the mainland? Start with Miami.
