Most touring shows on the Space Coast end up on one stage. The King Center for the Performing Arts on North Wickham Road in Melbourne opened in April 1988 as the Brevard Performing Arts Center, with Singin' in the Rain as its first show. A year later it took the name of Maxwell C. King, then president of Brevard Community College, the school that became Eastern Florida State College and owns the building.

Inside the King Center
The main theater seats about 2,000, and a studio theater of about 250 handles the smaller nights. Concerts share the calendar with touring productions, and the Brevard Symphony Orchestra has been the orchestra in residence for more than 25 years. Other Rooms in Brevard
- Melbourne Auditorium on East Hibiscus Boulevard is a city run hall of about 1,300 seats that hosts concerts, festivals, dances and car shows.
- Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse opened in August 1924 as the Aladdin Theater, a silent movie house. It was restored in the late 1980s and has staged community musicals since 1990.
- Intracoastal Brewing Company on West New Haven Avenue has a big outdoor space and food trucks on weekends, and that space has hosted local music festivals.
Street Nights
Downtown Melbourne holds Friday Fest on East New Haven Avenue on the second Friday of the month, with vendors, food and live music. Up in the Eau Gallie Arts District, the First Friday gallery night on Highland Avenue brings music into the streets on a different Friday. Between the two, most months give you two Friday nights of music in the street.
Weather and Driving
The stretch the weather service calls the Lightning Capital of the United States runs inland from Tampa to Cape Canaveral, and the Space Coast sits at its east end. In the summer months, afternoon storms are a regular thing, so outdoor nights downtown may shift. Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30.
For arena tours and the big theme park rooms, Orlando is the usual drive west. The coast continues north to Daytona Beach and south to the Treasure Coast.
