In August 1956, Elvis Presley played the Florida Theatre on Forsyth Street, and a local judge, Marion Gooding, took a personal interest in keeping the act clean. The theater had opened in April 1927 as the largest in Florida, and of the six theaters that once lined Forsyth Street, it is the one left standing. It seats about 1,900 and remains the room where a lot of Jacksonville's best concert nights happen.

Downtown and the Stadium District
VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena opened in 2003 to replace the old Coliseum, and it was designed with concert acoustics in mind. It takes the arena tours and is home to the Icemen hockey team.
Next door, Daily's Place opened in May 2017 as a covered amphitheater built onto the south end of the football stadium, with room for about 5,500. It went dark after a final show on December 30, 2025, for the stadium's renovation, with plans to reopen alongside the finished stadium. The Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts is home to the Jacksonville Symphony and the Moran Theatre, which takes touring shows.
Smaller Rooms
Jack Rabbits in San Marco is a room of about 300 with a long history of booking indie, underground, reggae and veteran acts. Street parking around it is tight, so get there early. Out at Jax Beach, the Blue Jay Listening Room seats about 80 for songwriters who want the crowd quiet and close.
St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra
The Amp in St. Augustine sits on Anastasia Island, across the bridge from downtown and about half a mile from the beach. It was built in 1965 for the city's 400th anniversary on an old coquina quarry, and St. Johns County restored and reopened it in 2007 with seating for about 4,000. Parking can mean a walk.
Up A1A, the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall is a former church the county converted into an indoor hall in 2011, with about 450 seats or room for 900 standing. The same county team runs both, so the bigger outdoor show and the close indoor one share a calendar.
A May Tradition
The Jacksonville Jazz Festival started in Mayport in 1979, moved downtown in 1982 and fills Memorial Day weekend with free shows (VIP areas aside). Browse jazz and blues when spring comes around.
