The Kravis Center grew out of a fundraising push. In 1986, friends of Raymond F. Kravis raised $5 million in his honor, and the center that carries his name opened in 1992 with a gala that put Ella Fitzgerald, Burt Reynolds and Lily Tomlin on stage. Alexander W. Dreyfoos Jr. is credited with founding the Palm Beach County Council of the Arts in 1978, the group whose work led to the building, and the main hall is named for him.

Know before you go
Dreyfoos Hall
The Alexander W. Dreyfoos Jr. Concert Hall seats 2,195, which makes it the room for touring headliners, orchestras, dance companies and the biggest productions on the campus. A custom digital organ funded by Dreyfoos went in in 2016, and you will hear it when an orchestra program calls for one. The center also includes the Rinker Playhouse, a black box theater that opened in 1994, plus the recital space in Persson Hall and the Cohen Pavilion, so read the listing to be sure which door you want.
The garage and the drive in
From I-95, take exit 70 and head east on Okeechobee Boulevard for about half a mile. Turn left on Tamarind Avenue at the first light past the railroad tracks, and the Kravis garage is on the right, just past the Cohen Pavilion loading dock driveway. It has roughly 1,200 spaces over five levels and sits right next to the center, with a second entrance off Alexander W. Dreyfoos Way. From Florida's Turnpike, take exit 99 and ride Okeechobee east about 7 miles.
Before the show
Okeechobee gets slow at rush hour, so build in time for a weeknight curtain. Winter is snowbird season in the Palm Beaches, and the calendar and the garage both get fuller, so buy early for those dates. Check your ticket for curtain times and any garage details for the night.
