A lawn in a county park
Sunset Cove is nowhere near downtown anything. It sits inside Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park, a county park of more than 850 acres west of Boca Raton that also holds a water park, a nature center with boardwalk trails and a golf course with 27 holes. Palm Beach County runs the amphitheater as one of its three outdoor venues.
The county began building out the park in 1996, and the amphitheater, finished in 2008, was the last major phase. Until 2012 the whole park was called South County Regional Park, a name you will still find on older maps and listings.
How it is set up
There are no fixed seats. The amphitheater holds up to 6,000 on a lawn facing the stage, with a covered vendor area off to the side and public restrooms attached to the building. The county books its own community nights, including free concerts, family movies and its July 4th concert and fireworks, and promoters bring in national acts and tribute festivals. Zac Brown Band, Willie Nelson and Yes are among the names on the past list.
Finding it
The park has entrances off Glades Road and Yamato Road west of Boca, and the amphitheater's own address is 20405 Amphitheater Circle. Put that address in your map app, since some listings use the park's golf course address on Glades Road instead, and this is a big park to circle. Paved and overflow parking holds more than 2,000 cars, so plan on a short walk from where you land.
What to bring
Lawn shows are about comfort. Check the event listing for chair and blanket rules, wear sunscreen for an early start, and pack a poncho for the summer storms. Out here in the western suburbs the mosquitoes show up at dusk, so bring repellent.
For a club night in town, the Funky Biscuit in Royal Palm Place is the indoor option in Boca. iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre is the bigger outdoor stage near West Palm Beach, and the West Palm Beach page lists every show in the Palm Beaches.
