Not every show fits a tidy genre. This page collects the rest of the statewide calendar, from tribute nights and gospel tours to songwriter rounds, holiday concerts and film screenings with a live orchestra.
Tribute season
Tribute acts do steady business in Florida, and winter is their busy stretch. The Villages, the performing arts centers in Naples, Sarasota and the Palm Beaches, and the casino theaters all book bands that recreate the Eagles, the Beatles, ABBA or Fleetwood Mac, often down to the costumes. It makes for an easy night out, with simpler parking than an arena and an earlier drive home.
Gospel and songwriters
Gospel and contemporary Christian tours fill churches, theaters and arenas around the state, and holiday shows crowd the calendar from Thanksgiving through New Year's.
Songwriters get two festivals built around them. The Key West Songwriters Festival has spread shows across bars and stages on the island each spring since the 1990s, and the 30A Songwriters Festival fills the beach towns of the Panhandle in January. Both put the people who wrote the hits on small stages, telling the stories behind them.
